Pronunciation — Two Samala Consonants that English Lacks:  x and q  

Samala has two consonant sounds that don't occur in English at all.
x This sound is a raspy "H." It's like the "J" in Spanish baja or the "CH" in German Bach.
The x sound can occur anywhere in a Samala word:    
at the beginning: bear skunk
  xus "bear"
in the middle:
  taxama "skunk" xus taxama
  ixpan "acorn" eye, face bow, weapon
at the end:
  tx "eye, face"
  ax "bow, weapon" tx ax
Remember not to pronounce Samala x like either "X" in Xerox.
 
The second Samala sound that doesn't occur in English is more unusual.
q This sound is a "K" that"s pronounced further back in the throat than regular Samala k or English "K"
The q sound can occur anywhere in a Samala word:   sun, day
at the beginning: leaffeather
  qap "leaf, feather"
  qsi "sun, day"
in the middle: qap qsi
  aqiwo "star" dead, to be dead to hear, listen
  aqan "to die, be dead"
at the end:
  itaq "to hear, listen" aqan itaq
